If there are two things Italy is known for, they are espresso and pasta.
Espresso and pasta are truly Italy’s gifts to the world, and they are the basis of a new event series from La Marzocco. Teaming up with renowned cookbook author Joshua McFadden, La Marzocco is hosting four Espresso & Carbonara brunches throughout the month of December to celebrate McFadden’s favorite pairing.
Most known for the James Beard Award-winning cookbook Six Seasons: A New Way With Vegetables, McFadden is soon to release his third book, Six Seasons Of Pasta: A New Way With Everyone’s Favorite Food. As the story goes, when working on the new cookbook McFadden would fuel up with shots of espresso from his Linea Mini, which he discovered paired bizarrely well with a decadent carbonara; he even went so far as to call it his favorite brunch.
Thus was born the idea of the Espresso & Carbonara brunch. Making stops in Portland, Minneapolis, Madison, and Milkwaukee, in an interview with La Marzocco McFadden describes the brunch series as “nothing fussy [or] overthought. Just good pasta, good espresso, and good people.” He also describes it as part of his agenda to make carbonara a breakfast food. Do with that information what you will.
For the events, each location will have an espresso and carbonara pairing on their specials menu as well as having Six Seasons of Pasta available for purchase, with McFadden being on hand to autograph. The dates and locations are as follows:
Dec. 6: Portland, OR – Pal’s (in partnership with Coava Coffee)
Dec. 14: Minneapolis, MN – Lynette
Dec. 20: Madison, WI – Mint Mark (with a possible additional service on Dec. 21 if the first sells out)
Dec. 22: Milwaukee, WI – Uncle Wolfie’s Breakfast Tavern
