Not to be all “back in my day” about it, but back in my day, if you had $400 to spend on a grinder, you bought a Baratza and you were thankful for it. That’s not to say that Baratza doesn’t make a quality product, quite the opposite in fact, but the point is that they were pretty much the only game in town for the home user. Fast forward a number of years that are frankly none of your business and the home grinder market has exploded with options at every price point. Kids these days just don’t realize how good they have it.
Case in point: the G64 from Hibrew. The all new grinder comes equipped with features even commercial options didn’t have not even 10 years ago, and it’s live on Kickstarter now.
The 64mm stainless steel flat burr grinder includes things like stepless grind adjustments, a variable speed motor, dual anti-static coating to reduce retention, and a smart air-blowing bellow hopper design to expel any persnickety bits of coffee from the chute. (It’s a little like Whack-A-Mole except there’s only one thing you whack and the mole is coffee fines.) And the chute is designed to work as well with a grinds catcher up as is it a 58mm portafilter.
Those looking for even more out of there grinder, Hibrew is also releasing a G64 Plus version. It expands on the features of the base model, including titanium-coated 64mm flat burrs as well as a larger range and stepless motor speed adjustment. The G64 has three adjustment speeds: 1,200, 1,400, and 1,600rpm. The G64 Plus ranges from 600 to 1,600rpm, with the lower RPM range better suited for lighter roasts. Hibrew states the brushless motor in the G64 Plus is also quieter and the brushed motor in the standard G64 and has a longer lifespan.
With over a month left, the Kickstarter campaign has reached nearly 10 times its $5,000 goal. Even still, there are discounts available for any would-be backers. There are super early bird deals for both the G64 and G64 Plus, the former being $329, an 18% discount off the $399 MSRP, and the latter $399, $100 off the $499 MSRP. Rewards are expected to begin shipping out in January of 2026.
The home grinder market is a crowded field that only continues to grow. For more information or to back the campaign, visit the Hibrew G64 Kickstarter page.
