Get Competition Ready For The New US Barista Championship

by admin

We’re just under two months from the US Barista Championship taking over the Huckleberry Roasters HQ in Denver, Colorado. And if you’re a competitor it’ll be the longest and shortest two months of your life. Two months to pick a coffee, a theme, build a routine and polish it. So to help, the US Coffee Championships is putting together three different hands-on Barista Championship workshops, and the first one is this weekend in Olympia.

Announced on Tuesday via Instagram, Coffee Champs has teamed up with Dalla Corte to create a one-stop workshop for USBC competitors, judges, and volunteers. Open to the coffee community at large, each event provides the opportunity for competitors to familiarize themselves with USBC equipment and to talk shop with current USBC head judges.

Included in the workshops will be a full breakdown of the rules and regulations, tasting exercises for sensory evaluation, a walkthrough of technical evaluations. There will also be mock run-throughs, judges’ deliberation included. Participants will also get “a closer look at how competitions are structured, assessed, and executed at the highest level.”

A total of three workshops will be held across the country. The first takes place this Saturday, May 2nd, at Olympia Coffee’s downtown location. The next event will happen the following Saturday at Onyx Coffee Lab’s Rogers, Arkansas HQ. Both run from 10:00am to 6:00pm local time. The final workshop will be on the East Coast, location and date still to be determined.

Workshops are completely free to attend, and registration can be made here. For those interested in the East Coast date, registration automatically signs you up to receive RSVP information once it is available. Registration is open for competitors, judges, volunteers, and those interested in participating in future competitions. For more information, visit the US Coffee Championships Instagram page.
