After over 30 years of experience in the coffee and beverage industry and just under 7 years of their tiny little business, Keia & Martyn’s Coffee have won one of the most prestigious food and beverage awards in the country. With the James Beard of the packaged food and beverage trade, the Good Food Awards had over 1100 entries from across the country and their coffee stood out among many. The Good Food Foundation has panels of industry experts, chefs, buyers, and critics taste samples without any information on the producers, farmers, or where the products come from. After judging solely on taste, they then vet each top scoring product for sustainability practices. After rising to the top in flavor, Keia & Martyn’s Coffee soared to a win with their equity and sustainability standards, bringing a win for coffee home to the Rose City.

Keia and Martyn are a couple with an origin story in coffee and a commitment not only to each other but to their customers, the environment, and community. After becoming one of the first and only Black woman roasters in the Pacific Northwest, Keia Booker has become a roaster to watch. In five short years, she has learned roasting from her husband while also absorbing the knowledge of working on four different types of roaster. They have their eyes set on continuing to produce award-level coffee, but are broadening their focus to their Street Chai line, Magic Dust instant coffees, tea blends, new accessible beverages, and even a food line.

With their Good Food honor and the wind at their back, they are planning their next adventure; moving their cafe and production facility out of Lloyd Center Mall (after it officially closes on August 8th) and into new digs where they will be able to not only share new food and beverage products made in-house but support other local, BIPOC, women, and/or queer owned brands and farmers. You can purchase their products on their website, at Lloyd Center Mall, their 5th Avenue location downtown called tiny little cuppa or TLC, Peoples’ Coop, Market of Choice, and out at the many markets and street fairs they do year round.

They believe everyone deserves goodness and apparently the Good Food Awards agree with the goodness they are putting into every cup.

“Everybody deserves goodness and we create products and spaces that are thoughtfully curated for any and everyone that values quality over pretense to enjoy,” states Keia Booker, Co-owner and Roaster.
